This work combines a map of Australia with Europe and the world addressing the theme of migration. It considers how migrants combine the places they leave behind with the ones they inhabit now. I reference my own family’s European history and that of the many migrants I have taught. Migrants may look back to an imaginary homeland, but their identities are continually transformed by the migration experience. This work is a touchstone for the transformative nature of migration and potential for the imagination and art to hold two or more places together at once.
