Radio waves bring news that numbers of the laughing Kookaburra and the Australian Magpie are declining. I listen. Their unique and complex songs filled childhood landscapes. Like the loss of a loved one. Radio waves fade. I hear bird song, laughter and the sound of wings in flight. Issues around endangered species come close when they are emotionally engaging. Media items alert me that the numbers of the birds I have taken for granted are declining. In my disbelief, I begin recording their presence visually and through sound recordings. How much we stand to lose in this garden of heaven.
