Pillows lie in a bath of water, saturated. Why is the bath so seductive? To lie in water, come to rest, the weight falls away after a long journey. This is a place of security, an enclosed, intimate space. Light plays on the water. To buoy, carry and drown. Healing properties of water, womb. Bath for dreaming, breathing becomes deep, easier to breathe out than in, bath for drowning. Pillows – to rest, to sleep, to dream. I lie my pillows in the bath and they become dense with water, continents saturated.( Nicola McClelland, 1996)
