The three dimensional paper origami boats in this installation are the result of research on the cultural backgrounds of Carey students. Firstly the significant landmarks and features of a culture were collated and arranged onto a poster. The poster was photocopied onto tracing paper and the boats were created through the folding technique of origami. The boats have become the vessels that carry cultural identities and stories into the Centre for the Performing Arts.
Boats and feathers are featured in this work to reference movement ; the movement often expressed in the performing arts through music , dance and drama and in the visual directional design of this building.. The deliberate arrangement and placement of the boats onto the background fabric further conveys a sense of movement.
